Monday Motivation: Just Get Started

Published on 28 January 2025 at 00:56

Just get started! It is the hardest part.

Think about some of the goals and dreams you have. What is stopping you from tackling them right here right now? Starting is the hardest part. Continuing and finishing is much easier than starting. Being able to restart each day and stay consistent is very difficult, but the results will be worth it. Think about what you have been wanting to do and imagine if you did it. What would the results be? Would they be worth it?

When you find a goal/dream or multiple right for you, find any way to get started. Break up your dreams into goals and your goals into steps you can take each day. This will make everything "bite size" and more manageable for you. The last thing you want to do is overwhelm yourself.

Make it easier on yourself. For example, if you want to get into a habit of reading when you get home instead of watching TV, make sure you place a book near the door so when you come home you will see it. The book will not only be close to you making it easier to start, but it will also naturally be a reminder to read when you come home. In addition, I have heard this helpful suggestion before. You could take the batteries out of your TV remote and put them in a separate room, so when you come home, watching TV will be more difficult as it takes more steps to watch it.

Some other ways to boost your motivation is to have an accountability partner. You could also even have a friend or group of friends to join you in whatever activity you are doing. Not only this, but you could track your progress with mini video clips (or even pictures) of yourself before and after. Another way to track your progress and help motivate you is by writing in a journal. I personally keep track of my progress in the sport of tennis by writing in my tennis journal. Another idea to make getting started (each day) easier is by trying to add elements of fun and adventure into what you are doing if you enjoy those types of things!

These are just a few ideas... see if you can think of more! Go for those goals and dreams! You got this!
