Monday Motivation: It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

Published on 6 January 2025 at 17:05

No one is perfect. No one is happy or okay all the time. Accept these realities and give yourself grace to not be perfect or okay.

Our emotions naturally fluctuate because we are human. It is natural to be happy one day and then sad the next or even happy and then sad in one day. There are more emotions than just being happy and sad making this a complex topic. Humans are so complex. Therefore, life is complex.

You don't have to have everything figured out and know yourself perfectly because both those things are impossible. We aren't all knowing, so stressing about knowing everything only keeps you digging a hole that leads to no treasure.

This also applies to forcing yourself to be happy or okay. That simply is impossible. Learn to love yourself and choose to accept and grow through the different emotions and experiences you face. Forcing a happy attitude 24/7 or even just for a day is detrimental to you. Be honest and genuine with yourself. Feel what you feel. Try to face situations with tragic optimism. This is where you see the reality of the situation, both the good and bad, yet you focus on the positive and hopeful parts of the situation. Trying to broaden and then shift your perspective in life is different than forcing yourself to see only a certain way. By trying to ease your focus on the positive, you will naturally add this ability to your toolbox. It will become "muscle memory" if you do it enough. Tragic optimism allows you to realistically see all the good and bad, but its main focus moving forward is the positive which will help you to grow and thrive in life.

Be kind to yourself. It is okay to not have a bunch of things figured out. It is okay to not be okay. It feels like you lift a burden off yourself when you believe this and learn to practice this mindset.
