Friday Focus! Each Friday, I will be challenging you to focus on something. This Friday's Focus is going out of your way to help someone.
Being kind to others when it is easy is different than being kind to others when it is difficult. There are times when we are tired, feeling low, upset, angry, frustrated, too self-focused, and even times when we just don't want to help. Kindness is amazing no matter if it is easy or hard to do, but acts kindness that are hard to perform are truly incredible. It shows selflessness and self-sacrifice when helping others even if it hurts you, takes away your time, makes you more tired, makes you more frustrated, etc. It is important to exercise the truly special acts of kindness that are selfless, whether they are small or big acts. Kindness, empathy, and love are truly amazing and we need more of these intangible yet truly real things in our lives and in our world.
Today's Challenge:
Go out of your way to help at least 3 people. These acts can be big or small, but they must be an act of kindness that you don't want to do and probably on a "normal day" wouldn't do. For example, we tend to justify our inaction as "It's okay," "I'm tired," "I already performed many acts of kindness today," etc. These justifications may make our inaction feel better, but true sacrifice and selflessness sees past these justifications and chooses to not engage in them. These acts of kindness and love are difficult, but possible.
Ongoing Challenge:
Aim to go out of your way each day to help others. There is such a thing as taking on too much as carrying the weight of the world will crush you. That is why you must take care of yourself and treat yourself with empathy and love at all times. You are still loving yourself when loving others selflessly, it's just you are doing so in a way that extends your love to others and that sometimes hurts. Additionally, lay your struggles and any burdens you have on God and ask for His strength to help you through. Doing those things will help you! You just have to believe and have faith. It helps your more than it could hurt you. You can do it!
