What If Good Moments Didn't End?

What do you think would happen if good moments didn't end?

Fairly recently, I saw a very thought provoking video by the Instagram account @toachieveyou. The video's message was that a sunset is so special because of how it only appears for a brief amount of time and then it is gone.

The rarity of things naturally makes them more meaningful and special. Think about all the collectors out there that try to collect let's say a football collectible card that has only a total of 20 copies. Attaining one of those cards would probably be difficult because the rarity of the card makes it more special and worth more. This is like the sunset, except you can't buy a sunset. Time is also something you can't buy, making sunsets and time, from a certain point of view, worth even more than a football collectible card.

Putting aside possessions, think of nature. We are so consumed in our own worlds, technology, problems, drama, and worries that we forget there is a lot of beauty and wonder we can find in the world. Usually when we grace our eyes with the beauty in nature, we are so shocked and surprised because of its peaceful, calming, and wonderful nature. Our inner worlds and life tend to be disconnected from this peace and beauty. We are consumed by chaos and non-stop noise which makes it difficult to find and focus on what truly matters in life. Having a peaceful, calm, and strong inner world amidst the craziness of life is like having a competent and capable sailor onboard a sailboat in the middle of a storm. It is necessary to have this sailor or else the storm will probably get the best of you. This is the same with you and your inner world. You need to develop a strong, wise, hopeful, and peaceful inner world so that you can combat the storms of life.

We know that storms of life and bad things are inevitable. However, there are always questions about why do these tough times exist. I won't go over every reason in this blog post, but one reason is there needs to be bad for there to be good and vise versa. You can't have one without the other. Explore this reason more on your own to get a better grasp of it. Additionally, a question to ponder that the @toachieveyou Instagram video connects to is: "Would good moments even be 'good' if they lasted all the time?" Think about your average purchase that you really wanted and ended up buying, but you forgot about it months or even weeks later. Did this thing you bought change your life? Could you live without it? Was this purchase actually a waste of money? Do you regret purchasing it? Was this purchase you regretted something that happens often when you shop? The human search for happiness, possessions, wealth, power, etc. all falls through because no amount of these things will ever be enough. Nothing that you could possibly get tomorrow is better than what you have today. You must learn to appreciate what you have today and be satisfied with it. Chasing insatiable things leaves you empty while working towards your purpose and striving to have a calm and strong inner world leaves you fulfilled.

Bringing this post back to the question of the article: "What if good moments didn't end?" Do you think you would be happier? More fulfilled? OR Would you regret this? Would you rather have the good moments maintain their rarity and specialness? Would you rather use the bad moments as lessons and ways to see the good moments as amazing instead of trivial?

At the end of the day, it is your choice whether to make the most of these good moments. It is also your choice to let life be how it is and strive for a strong and peaceful inner world and strive for your purpose. Lastly, be grateful for how life is because I believe it was designed, with our cooperation, to bring out the best in us.
