Friday Focus! Each Friday, I will be challenging you to focus on something. This Friday's Focus is seeing the good in all situations!
Our brains easily recognize and focus on the negatives in many situations whether the negatives are real or not, or trivial or not. This feature is something we don't have control over and can't change. However, we can choose to redirect our focus on something positive and more productive. After you recognize the bad in the situation you are in, then PURPOSEFULLY look for and focus on the good and positives of the situation. This will help you face challenges and each day with more energy, resilience, and hope. Make seeing the good a habit and it will slowly change every area of your life.
Try Saying These Statements to Yourself to Practice:
My life is busy and stressful right now, BUT I am grateful for my family and friends who are supporting me and helping me through it.
OR
I have been feeling overwhelmed and unproductive, BUT I have access to healthy food, water, shelter, other necessities, and opportunities others don't have.
OR
I am tired of all these terrible things happening in my life. I am so unlucky, BUT I get the ability to be a light for myself and others.
OR
There are so many cruel things happening in the world, BUT I can take small steps to try and spread awareness and love.
OR
Anxiety never leaves me alone. I have tried everything, BUT I will continue to try to find peace amidst the chaos and never give up.
OR
I'm addicted to my phone and technology, BUT I am able to walk outside in nature and take in its beauty.
OR
I am anxious and scared of death, BUT I am so happy that I get to make amazing memories in this life.
OR
I am grieving a loss and I don't think I can get through it, BUT I can have hope that things will get better over time.
These are just a few examples of refocusing your thoughts. Also, it is important to keep in mind that the first initial negative thought you have may not always be rational or correct. Furthermore, before refocusing your thoughts onto something positive, you need to recognize the truth and validity of your negative statement. Then, refocus on the good of the situation. We only have one life. Let's make the most of it!
