"I didn't want to go down just making shots, seeing forehands rain down on me from Rafa." - Roger Federer
This quote is talking about intent, playing freely, and being brave. Federer was explaining how he didn't just want to hit shots just to hit them. He wanted to be courageous and go for shots that could put him in the best position to beat his opponent. Going for the shots, game-plan, decisions, etc. we should in sports and life isn't easy to do. We need to accept our fear, let it be there, and then do what we should do. If we go about our sport and life without having intention behind our actions and/or letting fear keep us away from what we should do, we will never get to where we need to be. Grasping this reality is one thing. The other thing is actually acting on what I am saying.
(1) First, you should recognize what decision/action you need to take in your game/match, your sport, and/or your life. Don't let anything, especially fear, cloud your mind when recognizing these things. (Note: Remember to continually learn about correct game-plans, goals, decisions, etc. for your sport and life.)
(2) Second, you need to recognize your fear, learn about it, learn from it, accept its presence, focus on something productive like controlling your controllables or on a strategy, tactics, or a game-plan, and then still tackle the challenge in front of you, no matter if fear is there or not.
Remind yourself of the acronym, FEAR, created by Angelo A. Rossetti.
F = Freedom
E = Empowerment
A = Action
R = Resilience
My way of simplifying the explanation of these four words is, FREE yourself from fear, EMPOWER yourself by embracing a new mindset, take ACTION by controlling your controllables, and be RESILIENT when faced with challenges and setbacks.
A new mindset changes everything. Focus on this acronym. Visit my post about this acronym on @mindset_is_key__1 to learn more about it and to find an analysis of each letter.
Remember to have intent in your sport and in life. Be free. Be brave and courageous. Never give up. You got this!
